Hi all,

I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas festivities and for some of you, you got the added bonus of snow on Boxing Day.

Are we going to see anymore snow in the foreseeable future? It doesn’t look on the cards even into early January.

After several days of cold frosty and even foggy weather it gets milder through Wednesday night. Therefore Thursday will be much milder with rain coming in from the west on a stiff southwesterly breeze becoming heavier later in the day. Highs 11’C.

Rain around on Friday morning will slowly clear southeastwards but doing so introduces cooler air so temperatures dropping during the day. Following the rain, bright spells and some showers. Breezy. Highs of 8’C.

The weekend looks cold with some showers on Saturday which could be wintry in places with some hail. The breeze making it feel quite chilly again. Highs of 6’C.

Sunday looks a bit more settled at the moment with bright spells and lighter winds. It could stay dry but we can’t rule out a shower. Highs of 6’C.

Looking ahead it remains showery with temperatures about average.

Thursday 18th December – Sunday 21st December

Hi All,

The question on everyone’s lips is. “Will it snow on Christmas Day?”. I’m afraid the prospect at the moment isn’t looking good. Latest forecasts suggest temperatures around 7°C and windy with showers. A bit of a let-down especially for snow-lovers like myself.

Thursday will be very mild with spells of rain or showers. It will also be quite windy at times. Highs of 13°C.

Overnight and into the following morning, the rain pushes away and introduces much colder air leaving Friday as bright, windy and fresh with wintry showers. The wind making it feel much colder than Thursday. Highs of only 7°C.

The unsettled theme continues into Saturday with cold, breezy conditions bringing some heavy showers with hail possible but milder during the day. Highs of 7°C.

All change again into Sunday. A band of rain sweeps in from the west early on but it turns patchy and it turns milder again with southwesterly winds back in charge. Windy too. Highs of 10°C.

Looking ahead into Christmas Week and it seems weather sourced from the Atlantic stays in charge, briefly. So expect mild conditions with showery rain at times to start then maybe colder on Tuesday before milder again for Christmas Day. There is a slight hint of something colder on or after Boxing Day which might bring snow.

Thursday 11th December – Sunday 14th December

Hi All,

The unsettled and the generally cold, windy weather continues.

Thursday sees the windy conditions stick around with strong gusts especially in the showers. Some of the showers will be wintry with hail. Feeling cold. Heavy rain with strong winds push in from the west later on and overnight with further windy weather with hill-snow possible and even possible to lower levels. Max 6’C.

As we enter Friday the rain could turn to snow before it quickly moves away and the wind turns to a more north-westerly direction so turning colder with some wintry showers and snow is possible again especially on the hills. Again windy but also some welcome sunny spells. Max 5’C.

Friday night might see a more organised band of wintry mix spread down from the north but it’s low risk and it is more likely just to be icy and a frosty overnight.

Saturday dawns cold with a frost but will be a better day with some sunshine on offer but feeling cold with a fresh north-westerly wind. Sleet or snow showers are not to be ruled out but these will be very well scattered. Max 5’C.

A chilly start on Sunday but any brightness will be replaced with more cloud from the southwest and it will turn milder and breezy. Rain developing during the day but mainly patchy and not too heavy. Max 8’C.

Looking ahead it’s briefly milder before another colder spell brings wintry showers and frost. This cycle repeats throughout the week.

Thursday 4th December – Sunday 7th December

Hi,

December is here and with it comes colder weather and the start of the meteorological winter but no snow event on the horizon.

Thursday will dawn with some patchy frost but with a little more cloud in places. A cloudy day is in prospect making it feel cold but some brightness too. Max 6°C, Min 1°C.

Going into Friday a cold front pushes down from the northwest introducing thicker cloud and with it some patchy rain and a little wintriness on the hills. Brighter later with the odd scattered wintry shower with hail possible. Some clear spells overnight will mean a slight frost and possible icy patches. Max 6°C, Min 0°C.

Saturday will start chilly but the day should be mainly dry with sunny spells and again cold. Patchy frost first part of the night soon replaced with cloud and rain. Max 6°C, Min 0°C.

Sunday doesn’t look as sunny as Saturday with showers which could be wintry on high ground with hail possible even to lower levels. Cold and breezy. Max 7°C, Min 2°C.

Looking ahead it looks unsettled and chilly with some windy weather and wintry showers.

Hi,

After frosts to start our week and a few cold days to follow, milder nights are set to return.

Thursday will be a fairly cloudy day but with some occasional sunny spells and hopefully dry. A breeze should start to pick up later in the day making it feel chilly. Highs of 8°C.

More in the way of cloud on Friday but most of us dry but less sunshine than Thursday and a risk of some rain towards the eastern side of the region. A noticeable south-easterly breeze making it chilly but temperatures on the rise. Highs of 11°C.

As we go into the weekend it looks like we keep the weather fronts at bay.

Saturday will be mainly cloudy, some bright spells especially to the west and a slight breeze. Highs of 10°C.

The pattern continues into Sunday. Remaining mainly dry, generally overcast with a murky morning likely. Odd bright spell and breezy. Cooler. Highs of 8°C.

Looking ahead and we officially start the Meteorological winter but no sign of our first snowfall. It will remain mainly cloudy and cool. Any cloud-breaks overnight will lead to some patchy frost.

Thursday 20th November – Sunday 23rd November

Hi all,

November is passing by without anything wintry and that looks likely to remain the case. To be fair it isn’t officially winter yet, so fingers crossed for some snow in December.

On Thursday we will see a settled day across the region but with mainly cloudy skies. Some brightness possible and average temperatures. Highs of 10’C.

No frost worries as we enter Friday but it will feel a little chilly as we develop a freshening south-easterly wind. Hopefully it will stay dry during daylight hours and again mainly cloudy. Rain should arrive from the west as we head into the evening and night. Highs of 9’C.

The weekend isn’t too great with low pressure close by but hopefully it settles down a little on Sunday.

Saturday looks set to start off wet with rain at times, some of which could be heavy. This will push eastwards during the day introducing showery conditions with some brightness and a fresh breeze. Highs of 11’C.

There is a possibility of some more prolonged rain Saturday night into Sunday morning with cooler weather following on behind. Sunday should then see sunshine with the low risk of a shower. A chilly night is possible with cooler air and clearing skies so some ground frost is likely. Highs of 9’C.

Looking ahead is a little tricky. It can’t decide whether to settle down with some brightness and chilly nights or continue to be unsettled. However, for now, nothing majorly cold and probably just showery.

Thursday 6th November – Sunday 9th November

Hi all,

October ended with a record-breaking Halloween with 20°C reached in a few sheltered spots across the region. We also saw 22 rainy days out of 31, making it quite an unsettled month. A new month however, has brought more autumnal-like temperatures and our first frost of the season but will it last?

Thursday starts off on a cold and frosty note with some local mist patches too and it is likely to have been the coldest night of the year so far. Sunny spells during the morning but cloud from the west with rain and breezy conditions into the afternoon making it feel cold especially when the wind picks up later. Highs of 9°C.

Friday will be a day of sunny spells and showers. Some heavy and we could possibly see some hail. Breezy but a little milder. Highs of 11°C.

It looks like Sunday is the better day of the weekend.

A similar day as we enter the weekend with Saturday looking showery, and these showers may merge to give some longer spells of rain at times but bright spells possible in between. Winds from a southerly direction raising temperatures slightly. Windy again with highs of 12°C.

Sunday should be a little drier. Still scattered showers around but more in the way of brighter spells hopefully giving us a better day. Outside chance of some showers returning late-evening. Highs around average at 12°C.

Looking ahead, it seems a little more settled with normal temperatures and we could still see the odd chilly night.

October 2014 Stats: Warmest 18.7°C; Coldest 3.4°C; Wettest 19.2mm; Windiest 39mph; Total Rainfall 80.6mm.

Thursday 25th September – Sunday 28th September

Hi all,

Even after some rain this week, September is certainly going to go down as one of the driest I’ve ever recorded.

Thursday will be a breezy day and feeling quite cool with mainly cloudy conditions and some scattered showers. Highs of 17’C.

Not much change into Friday. Generally cloudy with a few bright spells. Again we can’t rule out some showery rain, especially early on, followed hopefully by a nicer evening. Highs of 17’C

Into the weekend I am expecting some improvement and a drier picture.

After a chilly start, Saturday will be a bright day with some sunny spells and winds should be lighter too making it feel a little warmer. It should remain dry. Highs of 18’C.

A dry day is expected on Sunday as well but as well as some bright or sunny spells, a lot of cloud is expected. Highs of 18’C.

Looking ahead there are some signs that later next week some warmer air will creep up from France and introduce a warmer spell. It’s still a week away, so only a chance for now but fingers crossed.

Thursday 4th September – Sunday 7th September

Hi all,

High pressure has now taken charge of our weather bringing plenty of settled conditions across the region but just not as much sun as we’d wish for.

Thursday will be bright and in spells of sunshine it will feel very pleasant for the time of year. Light winds and more general cloud later. Highs of 21°C.

Friday will be cloudy with some brightness. Dry and with winds shifting to a cooler northeasterly direction we can expect highs of 19°C.

As we enter the weekend with the gentle breeze from the northeast, we will see yet more cloud and at times thicker.

Saturday and Sunday look similar. A mainly cloudy affair with some brightness but in some places the cloud might be thick enough to see some light drizzle especially during Saturday morning. Highs around 18°C but if you do see some prolonged brightness then maybe a degree or two higher.

Looking ahead the settled theme continues but the risk of showers might not be too far away.

August 2014: Warmest 20.6°C; Coldest 6.7°C; Wettest 32.6mm; Windiest 36mph; Total Rainfall 136.2mm.

Thursday 28th August – Sunday 31st August

Hi,

After a disappointing Bank Holiday the weather improved for a couple of days but it’s back to square one these next few days. For Thursday we see early rain then sunshine and afternoon showers. Highs of 19°C.

An area of low pressure is in charge now so Friday will see sunshine and showers with a keen wind. Some showers may merge to give longer spells of rain at times. Highs of 17°C.

It’s a slow, improving picture over the weekend.

Saturday will be a breezy day with bright spells and showers. Some heavy. Winds easing later. Highs of 18°C.

It looks drier as we head into Sunday so apart from the odd shower later on it will be a day of bright spells. Highs of 19°C.

Promising signs next week of plenty of dry weather as high pressure builds. Sunny spells across the region will see temperatures begin to rise so don’t put those BBQs away. Indian Summer?
