Summer’s coming – Thursday 28th May 2020 – Sunday 31st May 2020

Hi all,

Meteorologically-speaking summer starts on Monday. But you would be right to think it is already here as we end May with some glorious weather. April was a very dry month (20.6mm) but May has been even drier and with no rain predicted in the next 7 days it will end with a record-breaking 7.4mm. The driest month I have recorded since my records began in August 2012.

Thursday: Warmer air will continue to waft up from the south. A lovely day with plenty of sunshine and feeling hot. Max 25°C

Friday: A light southeasterly breeze and sunny skies. Very warm. Max 24°C

Weekend: Hot and sunny but a little breezy.

Saturday: Sunny spells, with perhaps the odd cloud bubbling up as temperatures rise during the day. Any breeze will be refreshing and hottest in the west. Max 24°C

Sunday: No change apart from maybe not as hot as the wind swings to an easterly and picks up a little. Sunny skies once again with a few fair-weather clouds. Breezy. Max 24°C

UV Levels: The sun is now strong with UV levels above 6 and will approach 7. Sun-cream essential if you’re out and about as you will burn quickly at this time of the year.

Outlook: Little change to conditions with high pressure close by (will drift NE) leading to very warm sunny spells. Temperatures coming down a touch later on in the week as cooler air comes from the northwest. Otherwise staying into the early 20s for most of it. Our gardens do need rain but unless we trigger a shower from this heat, there is currently little sign of any.

Windy and cooler with some rain then decent again – Thursday 21st May 2020 – Bank Holiday Monday 25th May 2020

Hi all,

Our settled weather, which has become the norm since the lockdown started, is set for a hiccup over the coming days, but all looks good for the Bank Holiday. We are starting to need some rain, I for one, am sick of watering the garden but despite the brief unsettled spell, the next 10 days sees little.

Thursday: Not as hot as yesterday. A cold front will be moving east which might introduce some showery rain for a time during the morning. Sunny spells appearing later and still feeling warm. Max 19°C

A deep area of low pressure will control Friday’s weather

Friday: Low pressure to our north-west will introduce a band of showery rain followed by sunshine and showers. It will be notably windy for the time of year with 40mph gusts quite widely. Max 17°C

Weekend: Cooler

Saturday: Continuing windy with sunny spells and a few showers. Again gusts to 40mph. Feeling cooler. Max 15°C

Sunday: Feeling fresh at times in a steady breeze which will still be gusty. Some more showery rain possible but tending to dry up later. Max 16°C

Bank Holiday Monday: Looking lovely with sunny spells and dry. Temperatures recovering too. Max 20°C

High pressure returns from Bank Holiday Monday

Outlook: High pressure to our south will control things; sunny spells and warm with little rain expected.

Slowly Warmer with Little Rain – Thursday 14th May 2020 – Sunday 17th May 2020

Hi all,

Apart from a few showers recently the weather has remained settled and dry but cooler. After a very dry April, not often you get 22 days in a month without rain, May is following suit with only 3.2mm recorded so far. With little or no rain in the coming 7-10 days the watering of our gardens continues. But gardeners beware this Wednesday night will be a frosty one.

Thursday: A cold and frosty start for the early-risers. Dry with variable amounts of cloud and some sunny spells. Still a little cool in the shade. Max 13°C

Friday: Similar day. Chilly start with sunny spells. Cloud bubbling up during the day so the sun coming and going. Staying dry. Max 13°C

Weekend: A little warmer but still not too much in the way of sun

Saturday: A mostly cloudy dry day, but in any brightness it will feel less chilly. Max 14°C

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a few bright spells. Small risk of drizzle later in the evening, lasting into Monday. Max 15°C

Outlook: Once Monday’s drizzle fades the dry and warmer theme returns with little or no rain as high pressure influences our weather. Temperatures lifting into the 20s which might trigger a shower later in the week.

Warmer again next week. Hopefully into the 20s

From one extreme to the other: Thursday 7th May 2020 – Sunday 10th May 2020

Hi all,

April was the 3rd driest month I’ve ever recorded with well below average rainfall. It was also slightly warmer than your typical April as high pressure mostly controlled our weather. This weekend will see a big drop in temperature.

Thursday: Another warm day with sunny spells perhaps turning hazy later. With slightly unsettled weather out west, so not too far away, don’t be surprised if we catch a late-in-the-day shower. Max 19°C

Bank Holiday Friday: Warm with hazy sunny spells. It’s not expected to be as warm as yesterday but still a decent day and it should stay dry. Max 19°C

Weekend: Big change arriving

Saturday: Make the most of the warmth and especially the morning which will be dry with sunny spells. Cloudier for the afternoon with showery rain spreading south later. Colder overnight. Max 19°C

A blast of Arctic air during Sunday could see a drop of 12 degrees on the maximum temperature from Saturday

Sunday: Yesterday’s rain came south on a cold front and boy will we feel the difference. Cloudy with bright spells developing. A raw biting northeasterly wind and feeling much colder. Ground-frost overnight. Max 9°C

Outlook: Unbelievably another area of high pressure will build over the UK. I think we’ve had one poor week out of seven since the lockdown was put in place. So plenty of dry and bright weather to come, and at first some chilly nights with ground-frosts. Temperatures recovering during the week.
