Hi all,

Autumn has arrived and after a very dry summer August’s final week ended very wet and overall August saw 83mm of rain (44.2mm in the last 6 days). This was still just below average but it turned out to be the second wettest month of 2026. More rain on the way, and perhaps some unusually windy weather next week, but, surely there’s one more burst of warmth and a few days of sunshine before the nights draw in further and the talk turns to frosts.

Thursday: It’ll be a cloudy morning with some low-cloud and mist on the hilltops and also quite muggy. Any patchy rain should ease away and then it should be a drier day than recently with a few breaks in the cloud here and there. As we head towards evening clouds will thicken once again and rain will return. Max 20°C Min 13°C Max Gusts 25mph

Friday: A wet start on Friday, but this cloud and rain should move away to the southeast and then it will be a decent day, especially during the afternoon, with sunny spells and drier conditions. It will be a little bit fresher and this will be most noticeable in the strong and gusty wind. Max 18°C Min 10°C Max Gusts 35mph

Weekend: Not a bad start then warmer with a risk of rain.

Saturday: Sunny spells and mostly dry with just the odd chance of a shower for most of the day and again quite breezy. Cloud will thicken into the afternoon and there is a chance of rain arriving late in the day. Max 18°C Min 11°C Max Gusts 20mph

Sunday: It will be a warmer day and maybe quite muggy later but it will generally be a cloudy picture with some rain which is most likely to be out to the west and northwest. Breezy. Max 23°C Min 14°C Max Gusts 25mph

**A brief ridge of higher pressure to start next week?**

Outlook: A brief ridge of high pressure will bring a settled day on Monday and this hopefully will last into most of Tuesday. Later on Tuesday and into the midweek there is a lot of uncertainty but it looks like low pressure will come in from the west-southwest or northwest.

Different computer models have different areas of low pressure, with the one from the west-southwest being a deep low pressure which will bring some very windy conditions with gales and rain. As we head towards mid-month there were some signs of it settling down. At the moment this is too far away to confirm as the details are forever-changing, which is often the case when the weather is unsettled, so look out for updates on social media.
