Reality Check – Thursday 28th February 2019 – Sunday 3rd March 2019

Hi all,

WOW, simply WOW! What incredible weather that was for late-February. Wall-to-wall sunshine, warm enough for shorts and t-shirts, record-breaking temperatures and even cold nights with grass-frosts thrown in. I don’t think I’ve ever ‘sunbathed’ in February. Crazy stuff.

All this warmth was brought about by low pressures to the west and a huge stubborn area of high pressure to the east, allowing for an airflow to waft warm air all the way up from the Canaries. If it had been summer we could have been looking at temperatures into the 30s.

I only have records dating back to late-2012 and the highest temperature I had ever recorded in February was 13.9°C. This was smashed several times.

15.9°C on 22nd Feb 2019
15.4°C on 23rd Feb 2019
16.3°C on 24th Feb 2019
18.2°C on 25th Feb 2019
19.4°C on 26th Feb 2019 – current record for February and a Winter day

During these temperatures we had 4 nights with the grass temps down below freezing and also some dry air with a humidity of only 24% recorded on the 25th of February 2019.

Ready for a reality check?

Thursday: A bright start but cloud thickening with some showery rain possible at any time during the day. Feeling much cooler. Max 11°C

Friday: A little ridge of high pressure will give us a dry day with some bright or sunny spells. Max 12°C

Weekend: Low pressure in charge as Atlantic weather systems return on the Jet Stream.

Saturday: Becoming windy with showery rain arriving from the west with some heavier bursts. Gusty in the showers. Max 10°C

Sunday: Windy with sunny spells and a few scattered showers which might become more persistent later in the day. Feeling cool. Max 10°C

Outlook: Unsettled with spells of wind and showers, some could be wintry on high ground. Some drier spells in between. Temperatures 8-10°C at best.

Thanks,
Jon

Spring-Like: Thursday 21st February 2019 – Sunday 24th February 2019

Hi all,

We had a taste of early Spring last week and it is set to return. This time last year we were getting ready for Storm Emma and the 1st Beast from the East. What a difference!

Thursday: After a blip over the last few days, southwesterly winds will spread much milder air across the UK and after a cloudy start the cloud will thin and allow some hazy sunshine to develop. Max 14°C

Friday: It is expected to be a lovely day with plenty of warm sunshine across the region. It is likely to be the ‘warmest’ day of the forecast with temperatures widely into the mid-teens. A little breezy but feeling lovely in the late-February sunshine. Max 15°C but a few places a degree or two higher locally.

Weekend: Dry and pleasant

Saturday: The decent unseasonable weather continues with warm sunny spells. Max 14°C

Sunday: It’s looking a little more cloudier and with that and a fresh breeze it won’t feel as pleasant. Staying dry though. Max 12°C

Outlook: Temperatures will remain well into double-digits, plenty of dry weather with bright or sunny spells. February is coming to a close and the weather is ahead of itself.

Winter finished? – Thursday 14th February 2019 – Sunday 17th February 2019

Hi all,

Goodbye cold and hello mild. It will be feeling Spring-like with sunshine over the next couple of days and I can’t see any particularly cold weather with snow for the rest of the month! As Spring officially starts, I’m sure March will have some delayed winter-cold to bring us back down to Earth.

Thursday: A cloudy start but the southerly breeze will help clear this, leading to plenty of sunshine developing. Mild for the time of year. Max 12°C

Friday: A lovely day is expected with sunny skies and temperatures well into double-digits. The breeze will be picking up later. Max 13°C

Weekend: Cloudier and feeling cooler.

Saturday: Windy with bright or sunny spells. Remaining dry. Max 12°C

Sunday: Cloud and patchy rain trying to come in from the west but it is not expected to arrive, so another dry day with bright spells. Breezy though and feeling a little fresher. Max 11°C

Outlook: Cloudy to start with showery rain easing away as it comes in from the west. After this passes the week is expected to be dry with milder air returning and temperatures approaching the mid-teens. It seems Winter is over already.

Wet and Very Windy to start: Friday 8th February 2019 – Monday 11th February 2019

Hi all,

I had an operation on Wednesday so a quick blog from me and a day later than normal.

It’s a wet and windy one ahead with it eventually becoming colder.

Friday: A wet and windy morning with some heavy rain to start which will turn showery. A drier and brighter end to the day. Gusts locally of 50mph as Storm Erik (warning in place) crosses the UK. Milder air dragged in on the southwesterly airflow. Max 10°C

Saturday: A little fresher with sunny spells and a few scattered showers. Still windy with 45mph gusts. Max 9°C

Sunday: Feeling cooler as winds eventually turn northwesterly later. Sunny spells for the morning but showers will arrive late-afternoon with some falling as snow above 275M. A drier and clearer evening with a touch of frost. Max 7°C

Monday: Sunny spells, cold and winds will be lighter. Frost returning overnight. Max 5°C

Outlook: Becoming settled as high pressure builds in. Variable cloud so some bright spells by day and frosts at night.
