Hi all,

Let’s be honest. We’ve had a decent spell of weather recently, with plenty of dry conditions and warm sunshine, albeit with the odd day of a pesky wind. There’s a Bank Holiday Weekend coming up but the weather’s got to break at some point so we can’t complain. April’s been a decent month, mostly the second-half, with well-below average rainfall overall (only 31.8mm).

April has recorded 13 days of measurable rainfall. 10 of those days occurred in the first half of April, highlighting how dry the weather has been over the last 2 weeks.

A brief warm-up this week, with a brief humid feel to the weather before change slowly takes hold.

UV levels are now approaching high with values of 5 to 6.

Thursday: A windy day once again but plenty of sunshine and it will be warm to very warm, most noticeable in the sunshine away from the breeze. Warmest in sheltered western areas. Max 22°C Min 7°C Max Gusts 30mph

Friday: Another lovely morning with plenty of sunshine and it will feel warm as winds will be lighter. It looks like a very short-lived plume of humid air will arrive for the afternoon/evening which will trigger some showers. How warm we get on Friday, will all depend on how quickly these showers brew and move through the region. Not everywhere will see a shower, but places are likely to turn cloudy and temperatures will begin to ease away later in the day. Max 19-23°C Min 9°C Max Gusts 20mph

Weekend: The nice weather is coming to an end.

Saturday: High pressure will now be replaced by a more unstable air mass. Sunny spells are still likely but clouds will be bubbling up so don’t be surprised to see a few showers about. Cooler. Max 18°C Min 8°C

Sunday: A lot of uncertainty surrounding Sunday’s weather. With changes kicking in, it is very difficult to predict where rain will develop. At this stage it looks like a low pressure system will move up from the south. If this ends up being further west, we are expected to see a wet afternoon or evening. At this stage it’s going to stay away to our southeast. If this sticks true then we can expect a day of bright spells and the odd isolated shower. Max 17°C Min 8°C

Bank Holiday Monday: Winds look set to switch to a northwesterly direction, introducing cooler air and mostly cloudy skies. Some brightness but also the odd shower and if we had rain from the south on Sunday then this will ease away to the southeast. Max 15°C Min 6°C Max Gusts 20mph

Outlook: Looks cool and mostly cloudy for a time, so a change in fortunes compared to recent weeks. Some rain likely but hints of high pressure out west stopping the Atlantic weather systems kicking into gear. Temperatures more around the average mark or perhaps a little below.

I hinted at high pressure last week and the good news is, it’s arrived and here to stay for the foreseeable. Sometimes a high can be persistent and can trap in cloud and bring days of overcast conditions called anticyclone gloom. This high looks to be persistent but with plenty of sunny/clear skies with any cloud, being dragged in from the North Sea only affecting NE Scotland and NE England at times.

Parts of England have hardly had any rainfall in April and the rainfall amounts forecast for the next 7-10 days are very low for most of us.

UV levels Medium 4-5.

Thursday: After a couple of windy days it will ease slightly but still breezy from the east. A lovely day with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures up a notch. Max 17-19°C Min 4°C Max Gusts 20mph

Friday: Widespread sunshine is expected after a misty start. Glorious and feeling warm with lighter winds. Max 19-20°C Min 5°C

Weekend: BBQ Saturday? A little cooler with some cloud on Sunday.

Saturday: Mist to start again then another great day with warm sunny spells. Just perhaps some fair-weather cloud at times. Max 19-21°C Min 7°C

Sunday: Winds swinging to drag in slightly cooler air and a bit more cloud is expected but still pleasant with sunny spells and dry. Max 18°C Min 6°C

Outlook: High pressure to continue to dominate. A lack of rainfall, sunny spells, warm at times with cool nights. Chance of some cloud off the North Sea in eastern parts midweek. Make the most of it. Chances are it is likely to change as we enter the Bank Holiday Weekend as pressure drops and rain and cooler air arrives. Of course a long way off, so subject to change.

April showers have been around this past week and despite there still being a nip in the air and a couple of frosty nights, it is now noticeably warmer in that sunshine. UV levels are now up close to 5, so time to start working on your tan.

Excluding Wednesday, not much rain has fallen over the last 4 weeks with rainfall amounts actually below-average.

Last 30 days: 17 rain fallen days and 13 dry days. 65mm in total but 40.4mm of that fell on 4 days so the other 13 days weren’t that wet.

Make the most of any sunshine you see now as it can be pleasant even if the temperatures are still in the low-teens.

Thursday: Low pressure to the north-west so a southwesterly flow bringing sunny spells and showers. Windy and pleasantly mild in the sunshine with temperatures slightly above average. Max 16°C Min 9°C Max Gusts 25mph

Friday: Another low will bring a spell of rain then showers after a bright and dry start. Max 16°C Min 8°C Max Gusts 25mph

Weekend: Fresher but improvements.

Saturday: More of a westerly airflow. Sunny spells and a few showers but not as mild especially overnight. Showers more likely later in the day. Max 14°C Min 5°C Max Gusts 25mph

Sunday: A ridge of higher pressure will bring a settled day with bright or sunny spells after any early showers fade. Max 13°C Min 5°C Max Gusts 20mph

Outlook: High pressure will hopefully stay around and even though it will sit in a ‘cool’ position it means we could see a settled spell of weather take hold next week with pleasant sunny spells and chilly nights.

It’s quite hard to believe that a quarter of the year has gone already. We didn’t have much of a winter in terms of cold and snow, but that always seems to be the case these days. Spring has already been going for a month, meteorologically-speaking and we have had a couple of nice days with a bit of warmth, but overall it’s been disappointing so far.

Next on our agenda is the Easter holiday and I did mention that the Easter holiday forecast was flipping and flopping when it came to will it be nice with high pressure or will it be unsettled with Atlantic-driven weather systems? More so the latter I’m afraid.

Thursday: Not a bad day to be fair after a misty start and a little bit of a chilly one. Sunny spells will be around for the morning turning hazy later as cloud thickens from the west. Some rain overnight. Max 11°C Min 6°C

Good Friday: Low pressure will be close by, so we will see a day of bright spells and showers and it will be also windy. Especially gusty during any showers. Max 12°C Min 4°C Max Gusts 30mph

Easter Weekend: Windy but not too bad after Saturday.

Saturday: Sunny spells to start but these will be brief as cloud thickens from the west. Becoming very windy later with a warning in place as a spell of rain arrives towards evening. Mild. Max 14°C Min 4°C Max Gusts 50mph

Easter Sunday: We return to a cooler airmass now so expect a day of sunshine and showers and some of these showers could be heavy with hail and thunder. Feeling cold in the gusty wind. Max 9°C Min 2°C Max Gusts 30mph

Bank Holiday Monday: At the time of writing, this looks like the best day of the Easter break. It should be dry, bar the odd, isolated shower, plenty of sunny spells and windy. The wind will have switched to a southerly direction, meaning the temperatures will rise. Max 15°C Min 8°C Max Gusts 25mph

I hope you all enjoyed the Spring weather last week. Slowly but surely, we have now slipped back into unsettled conditions but also much colder air is across the region. Today, Wednesday, has seen a showery theme with reports of sleet, wet-snow, graupel, hail and thunder and lightning.

A high pressure to our southwest across the Azores will be trying its best over the next week or so to drift northeast and anchor itself across the UK in time for Easter. At the moment the Easter forecast is flipping and flopping and this time yesterday it was looking decent but now it’s looking unsettled again. It all depends whether this high pressure can make it in across the country. But it’ll be up against weather systems coming in from the Atlantic around the top of the high from the northwest.

Over the next 4 days there will be drier spells in our weather but further rain or showers can’t be ruled out.

Thursday: A frosty start in some parts but also a batch of showers are possible during the morning coming in on a cold northwesterly wind. Otherwise sunny spells for the morning and perhaps the first part of the afternoon before cloud thickens from the west towards evening. Max 8°C Min 5°C Max Gusts 20mph

Friday: A breezy day and it is likely to start cloudy with some rain. This should clear as the day wears on and sunny spells and a few showers are expected for the afternoon. Chilly overnight with a ground-frost. Max 10°C Min 1°C Max Gusts 25mph

Weekend: Saturday looks like the better day.

Saturday: A cold start, especially in the gusty wind. Sunny spells and showers. Hopefully well-scattered. Max 8°C Min 3°C Max Gusts 35mph

Sunday: Cloudy with rain for the morning turning showery later. Windy once again. A little milder. Max 12°C Min 5°C Max Gusts 40mph

Outlook: Tricky. High pressure to the southwest but rain-bearing weather-fronts coming in from the northwest at times. It only takes the high pressure to win out to bring a lovely and warm Easter. Look out for updates on social media.

It’s a quick weather blog this week as I’ve been out and about helping my dad do his garden in the beautiful sunshine. Glorious today, but will this weather continue? The answer is yes, in the short-term, but the warmest day of the year so far, on Wednesday, 19.4°C, close to my Match record of 19.6°C, won’t be troubled again for a while.

UV levels are now 3.

Thursday: There is likely to be a bit of low-cloud to start, but once this burns off, it should be another decent day with plenty of sunny spells and mostly light winds. Not as warm as Wednesday but still pleasant enough. Patchy ground-frost overnight. Max 17°C Min 3°C

Friday: There will be a weakening weather-front going down the eastern side of the UK and cloud from this could well get dragged in across the region meaning we start the day with low-cloud and fog on the tops. It will take a few hours but eventually this cloud again should burn away with the best of the sunshine in the west. Patchy ground-frost overnight. Max 16°C Min 3°C

Weekend: Morning cloud could be stubborn, otherwise decent. 

Saturday: We can expect another cloudy start and misty in a few places. The cloud will slowly break up during the day leading to some bright or sunny spells, especially the further west you are. If you do remain under the stubborn cloud which could be thick enough at times on the hilltops for drizzle temperatures will be suppressed. Max 15°C Min 3°C

Sunday: Expect a cooler day with clouds stubborn to clear, but with the breeze picking up later during the day, this should help the cloud clear and we should see some sunny spells come through once again and most places will be dry. Max 14°C Min 5°C

Outlook: The areas of high pressure that were over us during the past week will drift away. Will we see a bit of an influence from the Atlantic during Monday as cloud and a few showers push through the region, especially later in the day, as well as colder air. Hopefully on Tuesday a ridge of high pressure should settle things down briefly with just a few showers. A bit of uncertainty later in the week but it seems favourable to become more unsettled with weather systems coming in from the Atlantic. It will be a bit of a battleground however, as a high pressure system from the Azores will try and nudge northeastwards across the country. So as you can see, quite a lot of uncertainty. So stay tuned for updates. But it certainly won’t be as warm or as sunny as it has been this week.

I’ve moaned a lot recently about the lack of sunshine and overall our weather continues to be cloudy. To be fair we haven’t had much rain this month and we have had more dry days than wet days but it’s sunshine that we want more of. Last Wednesday was decent and today isn’t too bad despite the wind but there’s some unsettled conditions on the way in this forecast.

Thursday: It’ll be a cloudy morning after any early brightness fades. Some patchy rain will develop but all eyes will be on a squall-line moving southeast. This will bring an intense band of rain and strong winds (warning in place) for a short period into the evening, followed by further heavy rain and then clearer and much colder conditions. Max 11°C Min 2°C Max Gusts 50mph

Friday: A much colder day on Friday and with it, still windy, so you will certainly feel this.  There will be bright spells and a few scattered showers. Some of the showers will contain hail and will be wintry especially on the hills. With winds falling light overnight and any showers easing, there will be a localised frost. Max 7°C Min 0°C Max Gusts 30mph

Weekend: A little unsettled especially on Sunday.

Saturday: A chilly start with a frost in places but overall during the day it’ll be less cold and also not as windy. A day of bright spells with cloud bubbling up inland with just the odd scattered shower. Max 8°C Min 3°C Max Gusts 20mph

Sunday: Unfortunately, it looks like an unsettled day with winds picking up once again and showers developing and becoming more widespread as the day goes on. Max 9°C Min 2°C Max Gusts 30mph

Outlook: Windy at times and also some unsettled days. Temperatures around or just above average.

Welcome to Spring. It’s nice to feel the warmth of the sun and nice to be able to start having lunch outside. It was a lovely day on Tuesday once we lost some of the high-cloud and it felt warm in the sunshine despite temperatures only reaching 12°C. More of that weather to come (you will have enjoyed Wednesday I hope) for most of Thursday, with temperatures rising further.

If you do have plans for Friday though, be aware that it will be much cooler again, even cold under the cloud and rain. But the outlook is promising. It looks like any prolonged rain will stay away to our north and west, and where we do see any brightness temperatures will respond. You know there’s always a cold spell around the corner in March, but at this present moment there is no sign of this arriving.

Thursday: A cracking day. Plenty of warm sunshine, turning hazy later and cloudier into the evening with temperatures dropping away and patchy rain arriving. Max 16°C Min 4°C Max Gusts 20mph

Friday: A totally different day. Cloudy and cold. There will be some rain at times, but it will be patchy and it will tend to dry up later in the day and cloud will eventually thin and break leading to a patchy frost overnight. Max 8°C Min 1°C Max Gusts 20mph

Weekend: Less cold. Some sunshine though. Mostly dry during daylight hours.

Saturday: Pleasant with bright or sunny spells. Tending to cloud over later in the day but it should remain dry until later with any patchy rain arriving after dark. Max 11°C Min 5°C

Sunday: A cloudy start with bright spells breaking through and it should be dry. Again, similar to Saturday clouds thickening later with some patchy rain into the evening. A little bit milder. Max 13°C Min 7°C

Outlook: Little change into next week with some cloudy days which could be thick enough at times for a bit of drizzle or a light rain shower. There will also be bright spells at times too and the temperatures will respond with any sunshine. It seems likely that it will turn a bit more unsettled as we head towards next weekend.

How fast has this year progressed so far! Crazy!

Winter, meteorologically-speaking, ends on Saturday. It’s been a poor show for snow-lovers, but it hasn’t exactly been very mild through the 3 months. I’ve not checked the stats but my gut feeling is that it will be cooler than previous winters. We will see.

It’s not been very wet, compared to the last 3 winters, but we have seen rainy days but rainfall amounts haven’t been too high. It’s the relentless cloud and lack of sunshine that frustrates. Not many foggy, frosty then sunny mornings to enjoy.

Rain-free Days

December 2025: 14

January 2026: 9

February 2026: 4 (up to and inc. 24th)

The lengthy spell of high pressure blocking to our east in February brought prolonged rainfall to parts of the UK which helped to contribute to the day-after-day of cloud across the region.

Thursday: It’ll be a cloudy but dry start and then the cloud will thicken and rain will arrive from the west with southwesterly winds. Some of the rain will be heavy into the afternoon and quite prolonged. It won’t be as mild as recently but temperatures still in double-figures. Max 11°C Min 8°C Max Gusts 30mph

Friday: Unfortunately another cloudy day with rain at times, although the rain will be light and patchy. Still mild for the time of year, but as the rain moves away later and the wind swings to a northwesterly, colder air will arrive leading to a patchy frost overnight. Max 11°C Min 2°C Max Gusts 20mph

Weekend: Saturday looks the better day of the two.

Saturday: A clear and in places frosty start. Plenty of sunny spells on offer, but like recent days where we’ve had a sunny start, the skies will turn milky and hazy into the afternoon as high-cloud arrives ahead of yet more rain. Hopefully we should stay dry throughout the day. Cooler but pleasant in the sunshine. Max 8°C Min 5°C Max Gusts 20mph

Sunday: The first day of spring won’t be spring-like. At this stage there is some uncertainty on where a band of rain will sit. But at the moment it looks like it’ll be pretty much over us. So we can expect a cloudy day with rain at times, some of which could be heavy. Milder and windy. Max 11°C Min 7°C Max Gusts 30mph

Outlook: Any rain from Sunday should slowly ease away on Monday and then most places will become dry and mild with temperatures, possibly, into the teens. An area of high pressure is possible for Tuesday so expect dry conditions and some sunny spells but also slightly cooler air. After that, it will be a case of seeing if the high pressure can hold on and keep weather systems from the Atlantic at bay. If it can then we should enter a decent spell of weather.

It’s been quite cold at times over the last week, with the risk of some wintry precipitation and we did see some snow on higher ground at times. For those of you who love snow, winter officially does not have long left, but as we all know March can bring a cold spell and a risk of snow. 

That said, as we head and go through this weekend, much milder air is on the way. Parts of the UK will have a taste of spring with temperatures well up into the mid-teens. Unfortunately, our milder weather is coming from the southwest and that usually means plenty of cloud and quite brisk winds. So even though the wind will take the edge off the temperature slightly, if we do manage to see some bright spells, it will start to feel pleasant.

But don’t forget, some of us will see snow Wednesday night into Thursday so cold weather before that change.

Thursday: It’ll still be a cold day on Thursday, especially during the morning with any rain, sleet and hill-snow, eventually easing away into the afternoon. As the afternoon wears on drier, but still cold conditions with winds becoming lighter and eventually switching to a southwesterly direction. Max 5°C Min 3°C Max Gusts 30mph

Friday: There will be a band of rain spreading across the region, but this should move through quite quickly to be followed on by sunshine and blustery showers. As previously mentioned, winds are now from a milder direction so we can expect temperatures lifting up into double figures. Max 11°C Min 7°C Max Gusts 30mph

Weekend: Mostly cloudy with Sunday the better day. 

Saturday: Bright spells and showers. Much milder than recently so it will feel pleasant if you are sheltered from the gusty wind. There is a low risk that we could see some showers merge at times so keep an eye out on the forecast. Max 12°C Min 8°C Max Gusts 35mph

Sunday: With a rain-bearing weather-front mostly to our northwest, it should be a decent day. Bright spells and still windy but temperatures still into the mild bracket. Max 11°C Min 6°C Max Gusts 35mph

Outlook: The weather will continue to move from west to east as the Jet Stream stays in charge. Additionally, the setup will remain the same with most of the rain just out of our reach to the northwest to start the week. As the week wears on, it is expected that quite a large area of low pressure will come in across the country and then eventually move away to the east or southeast. This means introducing colder air later in the week after a couple of days’ worth of rain.
