Storm Amy to bring rain and wind but nothing unusual for the time of year. Cooler weekend too. – Thursday 2nd October 2025 – Sunday 5th October 2025

Hi all,

September turned out to be a very wet month, surpassing January as the wettest month of the year. We are still below average in terms of rainfall for the duration of the year, but with further rain on the way and the autumn and winter months to come, it’ll be interesting to see how close we get to the yearly average after some very dry months.

A very wet September

Obviously you will see a lot of over-the-top media reporting on the weather that’s due this weekend. A deep area of low pressure will be tracking to the north west of the UK and it has been named by the Met Office as Storm Amy. The first named-storm of the season. We will miss the worst of the winds but there is a warning out for western parts of the region where we could see gusts to 60mph. This is nothing unusual for this time of year.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a few bright spells here and there and winds increasing. It’ll remain dry for most of the daylight hours with rain, eventually arriving late evening and becoming heavy from the west. Winds will also increase and becoming gusty overnight. Max 18°C Min 11°C Max Gusts 35mph

Friday: Any early rain will clear, then a day of bright spells and a few showers and then the clouds will increase again later in the day. Late evening and overnight the wind will increase and the rain will become heavy. Max 17°C Min 9°C Max Gusts 30mph

First named-storm of the season. Storm Amy, Friday (late)/Saturday.

Weekend: Cooler, windy and wet at times.

Saturday: Storm Amy will firmly be in place now, so after early rain clears we can expect a day of sunshine and very blustery showers. The westerly wind will make it feel cool too and temperatures will be lower than recently. Max 14°C Min 7°C Max Gusts 50mph

Wind warning for western parts Friday night into Saturday.

Sunday: Still a windy day but not as windy or as wet as yesterday. Mostly cloudy skies with just a few showers. Max 15°C Min 10°C Max Gusts 30mph

Outlook: Still remaining a little unsettled on Monday and Tuesday with mostly cloudy skies and just a few showers or some patchy rain around. Not all weather models agree but there are signs of high pressure trying its best to build in from the west from midweek onwards. So fingers crossed for this happening, so the weather settles down with sunny spells and some chilly nights with fog.
