Thursday 2nd August 2018 – Sunday 5th August 2018

Hi all,

July has been another decent summer month, warmer and much drier than average. Recently we’ve had some welcome rain and now there are signs that the very warm to hot weather will return.

Thursday: Any sunny spells to start will fade and cloud increasing with a chance of a few showers. Very warm and a little humid. Max 24°C

Friday: A cloudy morning with perhaps a few spots of rain. Cloud breaking into the afternoon with some bright spells breaking through. Feeling hot in any sunshine. Max 24°C

Weekend: Settled, very warm to hot.

High pressure builds

High pressure builds this weekend but it is Southern England that gets another heatwave

Saturday: A pleasant day. Sunny spells, mainly dry and again temperatures well above average. Max 24°C

Sunday: Hot with sunny spells with a risk of an isolated shower which could be thundery. Max 25°C

Outlook: High pressure in charge but its position is crucial depending on how warm/hot we get. I’m expecting the week to start with temperatures into the mid-20s in a few spots, then cooler air will arrive during the week with temperatures remaining in the early-20s.

July 2018 Stats

Max 28.4°C (26th)

Thursday 12th July 2018 – Sunday 15th July 2018

Hi all,

In general, the heatwave has continued across the UK over the last week, albeit with some less hot temperatures at times. We have also seen some more in the way of cloud but none of the much-needed rain. The last significant rain, 5.2mm, was on Saturday the 16th of June. We did have a few days after that with some early-morning drizzle and in fact the last day of measurable rainfall was on the 21st of June. Today marks the 20th day (assuming we don’t sneak an evening shower) without rain, beating the previous 19-day record set back in March 2013. But, could we finally see some rain later this week?

Thursday: Very warm with sunny spells. Becoming a bit more humid than recently and as the air turns a little more unstable, cloud will bubble up and there is a good chance of a beefy shower or two. Max 24°C

Friday: Humid with an increased risk of hefty showers or thunderstorms developing, catch one and it will be a very welcome torrential downpour. Sunny spells and feeling hot again. Max 25°C

Weekend: Hot and humid.

Saturday: Hot with sunny spells. Still the chance of an isolated downpour or thunderstorm but the risk will be significantly lower than yesterday. Breezy later. Max 26°C

Sunday: A band of cloud will push down from the northwest in the early hours. There could be some rain on it but it will be patchy in nature. This will soon fizzle out to bring sunny spells and hot and humid conditions. Max 27°C

Outlook: Ex-Hurricane Chris mixed in with the Jet Stream could mean we see a return to westerly winds and some showery rain, but this is very uncertain. There is a good chance it will bring this change to Scotland and Northern Ireland but we continue to be warm to very warm with conditions remaining mostly dry. Not good news as everywhere is parched. So in summary, next week seems to be bright or sunny spells with a few showers here and there and staying warm with temperatures in the 20s. Something to note is; there is a small chance that Chris darts south and in turn we import some very hot air from Spain, a Spanish Plume perhaps, so watch out for updates.

Don’t forget sun-cream!

Thursday 5th July 2018 – Sunday 8th July 2018

Hi all,

I hope you’re making the most of the ‘unusual’ Summer weather that we are having. Normally we manage a decent week in May, then September, but we are experiencing a heatwave that’s set to continue. That said, we are now needing rain more than ever. Something I never thought I would say and I can’t see any on the horizon.

In May we only had 56% of the average rainfall. In June only 19%. The lack of rain combined with the heat and low humidity contributed towards the Saddleworth Moor and Winter Hill wildfires.

Thursday: Perhaps cloudy to start in some areas but this will thin to bring another very warm day with sunny spells. Max 24°C

Friday: Sunny spells and very warm. Lighter winds as a new area of high pressure builds across the UK. Max 23°C

Weekend: Becoming hotter.

Saturday temps

Weekend temperatures back up close to 30°C

Saturday: Hot with plenty of sunshine. Warm and muggy overnight. Max 28°C

Sunday: More summer sunshine and hot. Light winds throughout the weekend will not offer any relief and somewhere might see 30°C. Max 29°C

Thursday temp 12th

Remaining hot next week: Thursday could see temps close to 35°C in parts of the UK

Outlook: No change looking at Monday (9th) to Thursday (12th), hot with plenty of sunshine and temperatures could exceed 30°C as well as it feeling huimd. No rain expected during this period. Perhaps a little less hot by Friday.

Friday 13th

But do we finally see some cooler air arriving during Friday (13th) – one to watch

UV levels HIGH at 7-8 during the whole of the forecast period so don’t forget sun-cream.

June 2018 Stats

Max 28.1°C (26th)
Min 7.8°C (24th)
Av. 15.7°C
Wettest 5.2mm (16th)
Windiest 43mph
Rain 14.8mm
Rainy Days 10
Dry Days 20

Av. Max Temp should be 17.8°C we achieved 20.2°C.

Thursday 28th of June 2018 – Sunday 1st of July 2018

Hi all,

We are in the middle of a heatwave and bone dry conditions which contributed to the horrific Saddleworth Moor wildfire this week.

Saddleworth fire

Source: Dundee University – the wildfire showed up on satellite images

So sad to see so much countryside go up in smoke and it’s horrible to think about the devastation done to the wildlife.

Any rain would be welcome news to help the brave firefighters with their endless job in all this heat, but there’s nothing due this week.

We have struggled for rain over the last 2 months and with no rain expected in June we can confirm the monthly stats.

In May we only received 56% of the average monthly rainfall. In June only 19%. We need rain.

Throughout the forecast the UV levels are HIGH at 8, so remember sun-cream or you will burn very easily.

Thursday: Hot and sunny. Again, if you’re experiencing smoke from the wildfire then it will be hazy at times. Max 28°C

Friday: No change. Hot with widespread sunshine. With an easterly breeze bringing some relief from the heat. Max 27°C

Weekend: The heatwave continues. More BBQs and beer gardens to be had.

Saturday: Perhaps a little less hot with a keen easterly breeze. Plenty of sunshine. Max 25°C

Sunday: I sound like a broken record. Hot and sunny. Max 27°C

Outlook: The start of the working week will remain hot and sunny. It will start to become more humid which will make it feel muggy and uncomfortable to sleep at night. There were signs a few days ago that rain would arrive in the early hours of Monday morning but this now seems to stay away to our southwest. At the moment low pressure does look to move up from the south midweek and with it the chance of rain via hefty showers or thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop to the early 20s but with it the humid air will remain. Later in the week, towards next weekend, sees westerly winds return so turning fresher.

Thursday 21st June 2018 – Sunday 24th June 2018

Hi all,

We have some very warm, even hot weather on the way, which could well go down as a heatwave (the av. max. temperature for late-June is 19.5°C). Good news if you like it hot. Bad news for gardeners and growers though, as there is very little, if any, rain in the forecast for the next 10-14 days. Expect to see temperatures around 30°C for some places in the UK next week.

Thursday: A chilly start and much fresher with a cool northwesterly airflow. Dry with sunny spells and breezy. Max 17°C

Friday: High pressure builds from the west. Sunny spells with fair-weather cloud bubbling up during the day. Dry. Max 19°C

Weekend: Sunday sees the start of the temperature rise.

Saturday: Sunny to start but cloud will develop duiring the day. Dry with sunny spells and light winds. Max 18°C

Sunday: Much warmer with pleasant sunny spells. Dry. Max 23°C

Heatwave 31

Predicted Maximum Temperatures for midweek next week –  30°C possible

Outlook: High pressure in charge and temperatures rising. We look likely to develop a southeasterly flow which will drag in hot air from the continent. We could be seeing values of 25-28°C quite widely. This is expected to continue throughout the week with no sign of any significant rain. As well as some hot sunshine during this period we will see some variable cloud at times. At this stage it looks like the weather will become cooler from around the 2nd of July.

Remember at this time of year the sun is very strong, UV levels are HIGH at 7 or higher, so apply sun-cream if you’re planning to be out in it for a while, otherwise you will burn regardless of what the temperature is.

Thursday 2nd July – Sunday 5th July

Hi all,

Well summer finally arrived and with it some record-breaking temperatures for my weather station. Tuesday the 30th of June was my hottest June day with the maximum at 27.5°C and the night’s minimum, also a record, was an unbearable 20.1°C with high humidity.

For those of you, like me, not a fan (no punt intended) of the muggy, sticky air then good news for Thursday. The horrid air is squeezed away and it will feel fresher but still with very warm temperatures and sunny spells. One or two showers are possible. Max 23°C.

However on Friday the heat, but not as intense as Wednesday, returns giving us a hot day with sunny spells. The heat and humidity might see some thunderstorms set-off later in the evening and overnight with torrential downpours possible. Max 26°C.

The weekend starts with some leftover thunderstorms or heavy showers on Saturday which clear to fresher conditions once more and sunny spells. Max 23°C.

Sunday promises to be fresher again with sunny spells and some afternoon showers likely. Temperatures lower. Max 20°C.

The outlook for next week is for temperatures to return to normal with sunny spells & some scattered heavy showers.
