Thursday 25th July – Sunday 28th July

Hi all,

After over 2 weeks of bone-dry and sometimes hot summery weather, it all ended with a bang on Tuesday morning! Most people were woken up by thunder and lightning and torrential rain. Some places recorded some localised road-surface flash-flooding as up to 15mm of rain fell in a short space of time.

Although the heatwave has gone we will still see some reasonably warm and humid weather over the next few days.

Thursday will possibly start wet with outbreaks of rain. This will push away to give a day of sunshine and showers. These will be well scattered but if you catch one it could be heavy with thunder. Still feeling quite muggy with highs of 23’C.

Friday will have well-scattered heavy showers and some decent sunny spells so a better day than Thursday. Again warm 24’C.

Saturday will be showery but again isolated, so some places will get them and some places not. Pleasant in the sunshine with highs of around 24’C and still feeling a little humid.

Sunny spells on Sunday but again with showers around and some heavy. There is a risk that we could see more persistent and heavier rain for a time. One to watch on the Twitter account. Still warm though at 23’C.

Looking ahead it seems the weather will remain warm but occassionally unsettled.

Thursday 18th July – Sunday 21st July

Hi,

Good news! Our summer is here and it is set to continue.

The glorious week sees Thursday follow suit. Any early mist and cloud, mainly to the west, will soon burn off and we will see a very warm to hot day with just some fair-weather cloud bubbling up during the afternoon heat. Dry and highs of 26’C.

Friday will be a similar day. Early mist soon disappearing and a lovely day with sunny spells and hot. There is though, an outside chance of a late thunderstorm towards the Pennines but the risk isn’t high. Highs of 27’C.

Throughout this forecast the UV levels are high so wearing suncream is essential as burn time is low. Also, pollen levels will be high to very high so not good news for hayfever sufferers.

With high pressure still in charge of the weather the weekend holds little change.

Saturday will see another summery day with sunny spells and strong sunshine and temperatures remain high at 26’C. A bit more cloud possible in the afternoon giving the threat of a late sharp shower, but low risk and localised towards the Pennines.

After another warm and muggy night, Sunday will be a day of some fair-weather cloud and sunny spells. Feeling hot and humid again and highs of 26’C.

Looking ahead into next week current signs show that the lovely very warm to hot weather will continue with some occassional cloud at times. There is a chance, looking long-term that this weather may last to the end of July but for now it is a long way off so take it as a possible rather than a likely.

Thursday 11th July – Sunday 14th July

Hi,

Summer finally arrived, so I hope you all have been enjoying the sunshine and hot temperatures. It hasn’t been an official heatwave but it was close. A heatwave must have 2 consecutive days where the maximum temperature is 28’C or above and go no lower than 15’C at night.

So what’s in store for the next few days.

Thursday will have some cloud around at first but this will thin and break to leave a day of sunny spells and light winds. It will again be dry and warm to very warm but not as hot as earlier in the week. Highs of 24’C.

Friday will see it return to feeling hot again and also humid. It will be a lovely sunny day with strong sunshine but the increase in humidity may spark off an isolated storm over the Pennines. Highs of 26’C.

Saturday will see slightly more cloud around and it may give a heavy shower or thunderstorm later on, especially towards the hillier parts of the region but not a high risk. Otherwise, another warm day with some sunny spells but cooler than Friday. Highs of 22’C.

Sunday will be dry with sunny spells but possibly with some early stubborn cloud. Still warm. Highs of 21’C.

Looking ahead into next week it looks like it will continue mainly dry with warm sunny spells but with the odd shower risk.

Thursday 4th July – Sunday 7th July

Hi,

After my little rant last week about “Where’s our summer?”, the answer is, it’s coming! As we progress through the weekend and into next week it will warm up nicely with some decent temperatures and summery weather.

Thursday will see another showery day, as a frontal system moves through the region. Any early rain will turn showery and these showers should die away by evening as the weather starts to settle down and we see some sunny spells in the afternoon. A brisk westerly breeze. Highs of 18’C.

Friday will see a much better day and it will probably be the best of the week so far. It might start a little cloudy but soon brighter with some sunny spells by the afternoon, which will help lift the temperatures. Highs of 19’C.

Saturday will see winds fall light and temperatures start to rise further, as we see a day of sunny spells and dry weather with maybe some high cloud. Feeling very pleasant and warmer with highs of 22’C.

Sunday might see some stubborn cloud around early on, but this will hopefully burn off to leave a dry day with some good sunny spells and it will start to feel very warm. Highs of 24’C.

Looking ahead, the dry, settled and very warm weather looks set to continue as high pressure dominates. We could be seeing some hot weather at times with highs of 27’C into early next week but the humidity may increase making it muggy and a bit uncomfortable to sleep at night.

Thursday 27th June – Sunday 30th June

Hi all,

It’s almost July and the weather is yet to show us a heat wave. Unfortunately, signs are that as we enter July, we will still be waiting.

The weather calmed down this week after a lively weekend, which saw us have the wettest day for almost 5 months and also, in some areas, the heaviest rain for 9 months.

After a few reasonable days this week, Thursday will start off on a similar note with some decent sunny spells. Cloud will increase as the day progresses and rain will spread from the north-west by the afternoon. Feeling humid with highs of 18’C.

Friday will dawn cloudy and some places will be dry, but most places will see some patchy, light rain. This will gradually peter out by the afternoon, and any sunshine will be limited. A bit cooler with all the cloud-cover. Highs of 15’C.

As we enter the weekend it is set to be a quiet one compared to last week.

Saturday will generally be a cloudy day with any early rain dying away to leave some bright spells, more so in the afternoon. Highs of 17’C.

Sunday again will be cloudy especially early on but some occasional sunny spells will develop and it will feel quite warm in those brighter slots. There is a risk, late on, of a shower or showery rain. Highs of 19’C.

Looking ahead into next week it is showing hints that it might turn a little more unsettled. To keep up to date with your local weather, follow Jon, @ChadWeather, on Twitter.

Have a good weekend. 😄

Thursday 20th June – Sunday 23rd June

Hi,

Well some of you will be grateful that the weather will turn unsettled again as it means a bit of relief for hay fever sufferers and also a bit easier to sleep as we are losing the humid feel to our weather.

Thursday will start off a little humid and cloudy but by the evening it should start to feel fresher as some rain is expected to spread from the south and east during the day. Some areas may stay dry especially to the west until later in the evening. Highs a bit cooler at 18’C.

Friday will see some early rain die away and not a bad day is expected with some bright spells and maybe a shower. Cloudier and breezy later. Highs of 17’C.

As we enter the weekend it will unfortunately turn even more unsettled as again the Atlantic brings in some wetter weather.

Saturday may start dry but soon it will be cloudy with rain at times, some of it heavy and maybe thundery. Feeling cooler with highs of 15’C.

Sunday won’t fair much better with showers, heavy at times blown in on a westerly breeze. These showers could merge to give longer spells of rain at times. Highs of 15’C.

Looking ahead, next week is looking like it might settle down after a showery day on Monday.

Thursday 13th June – Sunday 16th June

Hi,

Very tricky forecast this week.

Well that’s the warm and sunny weather over for now. It was beautiful while it lasted and I hope you all took advantage.

We are now back in the usual weather pattern of a south-westerly flow with occasional rain or showers.

Thursday looks generally cloudy and breezy with periods of rain, turning showery later in the day. Slightly cooler than recently, with highs of 15’C.

Friday will be a day of sunshine and showers at first but soon cloudier with a threat of rain before the evening. Still breezy. Highs of 16’C.

Saturday will be another breezy day with occasional showers but we should see some brightness now and again and some areas will stay dry. Highs of 16’C.

Sunday will see bright spells and showers early on but these should die away by late afternoon. Into the evening there is a chance of some more organised rain spreading in from the south-west, heavy in places. Still breezy with highs of 15’C.

Looking ahead, we may start to drag some warmer air in from the continent but this doesn’t mean the weather is going to settle down.

Thursday 6th June – Sunday 9th June

Hello all,

As promised, the warm weather and temperatures into the 20s arrived. Long overdue and most welcome and this nice weather is set to continue.

Thursday may start with some low cloud but this will soon burn off and a day of warm sunny spells awaits but still with some cloud now and again. Highs of 20’C

Friday will see us drag in some warmer air from the south and south-west and after any early mist or low cloud the day will again be dry with sunny spells. Warmer with 22’C possible.

Into the weekend it remains settled, sunny and warm.

Saturday and Sunday seem very similar days. Both will see sunny spells with temperatures rising to around 22’C. With the heat rising, there is an outside chance of an afternoon or evening storm, mainly on the hills, but the risk is low.

I must add that the sun’s UV levels are strong at this time of the year and you will burn easily, so throughout the decent weather, remember to apply sun cream if you’re out and about.

Looking ahead the warm and settled weather continues into next week, but it does look likely to break after Tuesday or Wednesday as we look towards the west to bring in more unsettled weather with showers at times.

Get those BBQs fired up!

Thursday 30th May – Sunday 2nd June

Hi,

On Thursday we may see some early light rain which will turn showery but this should clear during the day to give some brightness and temperatures around 16’C.

Friday should start dry but patchy rain is expected later but most places will stay dry and cloudy. In any bright spells it will feel warmer as temperatures creep up slightly. 18’C.

Saturday will be cooler than Friday and during the day there could be a rogue sharp shower around but generally, cloudy again with some bright spells. 14’C.

As the weekend progresses we see high pressure trying to build from the south-west, so Sunday should be largely dry with bright spells and in any sunshine feel quite pleasant. Highs of 16’C.

Looking ahead it does look like we will see a few days of dry weather with warm sunshine, with 20’C possible but there is an uncertainty of how long this settled weather will last.

Thursday 23rd May – Bank Holiday Monday 27th May

Hi all,

Another Bank Holiday is approaching. So what are the chances of us having a very warm and sunny one like earlier in the month? Well let’s see.

After a chilly start on Thursday, the weather will have turned colder from the north and even though we should have a bright day there will be some showers around. It will be cold for the time of year. We should however, make double figures. Max 10’C.

Friday will start cold but showers will spread from the north-east which may be wintry on the highest hills. Some places, especially to the west may stay dry. The wind will have increased and it will be another cold day, accentuated by that wind. Max 11’C.

Saturday will see the wind ease throughout the day and any early showers should die away to give a day of sunny spells and feeling pleasant and a bit less cold as temperatures try to recover. Max 13’C.

As we head into Sunday the pattern is set to continue with a dry day forecast with some sunny spells but maybe more cloud later. Again, it will be slightly milder and it could feel quite nice in the sunny breaks. Max 15’C.

Bank Holiday Monday. It could be much worse but it could be much better. It is a few days off yet, but early signs show it to have occasional brightness early on, with cloud increasing, so don’t rule out showers or some prolonged rain late in the evening. Max 15’C.
