Thursday 12th March – Sunday 15th March

Updated: 19:00 Wednesday 11th March

Hi all,

Thursday will be dry for a good part of the day with sunny spells, especially early on. Cloud slowly increasing with rain arriving late evening and overnight. A little milder. Max 11°C.

Friday will see early rain clear eastward then generally cloudy with some brightness. Later in the day there’s a chance that the rain will return and feed back in as the winds turn easterly. Cooler. Max 8°C.

High pressure builds as we enter Saturday so any rain dying out early to give a dry day but with plenty of cloud. Some brightness and light winds. Feeling cooler. Max 7°C.

Quiet on Sunday. A lot of variable cloud, some bright spells but at least it’s mainly dry. Winds light but generally coming from an easterly direction so a cold feel. Max 5-6°C.

Looking ahead, it stays settled with plenty of cloud, some brightness but mainly dry with a cool feel.

Frosts limited due to cloud amounts.

Thursday 5th March – Sunday 8th March 2015

Hi all,

After entering March on a wintry flavour it’s set to become milder.

Thursday will start bright with some sunny spells. The afternoon will be cloudier with some rain possible but not everywhere. Winds now from a south-westerly direction bringing milder air. Breezy. Max 10°C.

We struggle to shake off the cloud into Friday as well, with some patchy rain continuing in the morning under cloudy skies. I’m hopeful the afternoon brings more in the way of sunshine though. Max 11°C.

The start of the weekend will be even milder.

We are in the middle of two weather systems as we enter Saturday so generally cloudy with some occasional drizzle possible but hopefully staying away to the northwest. If this does then we can expect pleasant Spring sunshine. Max 13°C or even a 14°C.

Expect a day of some bright spells early on, on Sunday but also a lot of variable cloud. Rain can’t be ruled out later into the afternoon. Mild but a little cooler. Max 12°C.

Looking ahead it looks more settled but temperatures likely to drop back to the norm.

Thursday 26th February – Sunday 1st March

Hi all,

After a cold start to the week Thursday will dawn very mild with early rain. This will clear quickly to give sunny spells and the odd shower and it will become colder once again. Windy. The max of 9°C in the morning.

Friday should be a day of bright spells and scattered showers. Remaining breezy making it feel chilly. Some showers wintry on the hills. Max 7°C.

As we head into the weekend it’s looking unsettled.

A dry start on Saturday then rain with gusty winds whip through followed by a drier slot with some showers laterMilder again later. Breezy. Max 9°C.

Early rain and winds on Sunday with plenty of showers on a stiff westerly airflow to follow, some of hail and thunder. Colder once again with showers turning wintry later on. Max 8°C.

Looking ahead into the meteorological Spring, temperatures remain around average with showery rain at times and windy. Later on signs of high pressure settling things down.

Thursday 19th February – Sunday 22nd February

Hi all,

High pressure has slipped away now as the Atlantic starts to take control of our weather.

Thursday will dawn wet with some rain spreading in from the west. Some heavy bursts then clearing away leaving sunshine and showers behind. Mild but breezy. Highs of 9°C.

Some more rain coming in from the west on Friday poses a threat of a washout but not guaranteed as it could be more concentrated to our south. However, still expect a showery day and feeling a bit cooler in a freshening wind. Highs of 6°C.

As we enter the weekend we pick up a cold, showery north-westerly airflow.

Saturday will be showery, some heavy and maybe wintry at times with hail and sleet. Some wet-snow is possible in the showers to higher ground. A cold windy day. Highs of 6°C.

More showers or longer spells of rain expected into Sunday after a dry start. Again feeling cold and windy at times. But temperature values up with highs of 10°C.

Looking ahead into next week; it looks windy with gales possible at times and further rain or showers with brighter spells in between. Possible wintry showers at times too.

Thursday 12th February – Sunday 15th February

Hi all,

Most of the outlook does look frost-free as we have plenty of cloud-cover and temperatures pick up slightly. If you do sneak some longer clear spells overnight then a frost-risk is there. Some rumours were rife that snow is returning. I can confirm that it isn’t for the foreseeable future. Also, the dry February, apart from the snow, has come as a relief after January had 30 rainy days out of 31!

After a cloudy week Thursday continues in the same vain. An overcast day with most places dry but still a little chilly. Any chance of any brightness towards the east. Max 5°C.

As we go into Friday we see a change. Rain pushes in from the west and with breezy southerly winds it will be a touch milder. Quite windy for time and showery later. Max 8°C.

Saturday will be cloudy with some showers possible during the day but these look to be well-scattered and most places should be dry. Max 8°C.

As we go into Sunday it remains generally cloudy. Some brightness around and it starts to feel like we’re back to square one, settled with light winds. Max 8°C.

Looking ahead, no sign of anything cold or snowy as high pressure sits close to the UK. Temperatures remain about average and mainly settled with the high pressure to our south-west. We could see some showery rain at times. Has winter finished with us?

Thursday 29th January – Sunday 1st February

Hi,

At least we are having a bit of a winter this time after last year’s poor attempt.

After sleet and snow showers Wednesday night, don’t be surprised to wake up to a snow-cover in some places. The theme continues on Thursday with frequent sleet or snow showers and a strong bitter north-westerly wind making it feel sub-zero. Further accumulations of snow likely in some localised areas, especially on higher ground but as is the case with showers, not everywhere sees enough to give a covering. Max 4’C.

Friday is another day of wintry showers. However it shouldn’t feel as cold with less of a wind and the showers should be more scattered. Still feeling cold though. Max 5’C.

An icy, frosty and maybe foggy start to Saturday. Sunny spells with some scattered sleet and snow showers. Cold breeze from the North Pole. Max 3’C.

Sunday in general looks a drier day with some bright spells. Odd snow shower may persist on the hills. Remaining very cold with a moderate frost early and late. Max 3’C.

Looking ahead high pressure should build in bringing settled conditions but we stay under the influence of cold air so frost and fog become the main concern.

Thursday 22nd January – Sunday 25th January

Hi,

It looks like the very cold spell is set to end.

Thursday will be a very cold day but settled. Mainly cloudy with some local sunny spells and apart from the odd flurry or patch of drizzle it will be dry. Highs of 3°C.

It’s all change as we head into Friday. Cloudy with some rain pushing in from the west which might be preceded by sleet or snow, on higher ground. Winds swing to a south-westerly and hence slowly introduce milder air. Further rain or showers likely into the evening and a thaw of current lying snow begins. Highs of 6°C.

A bit tricky as we head into the weekend. I’m expecting Saturday to be a day of sunny spells and showers. Some maybe wintry with hail or sleet. Maybe an overnight frost. Highs of 5°C.

Sunday looks more of a cloudy day. Any early brightness replaced as light rain comes in again from the west and milder once again. Highs of 8°C.

Looking ahead we get into the pattern we had a few weeks ago. Cold showery days with milder rainy days in between. Temperatures up one day and back down the next.

Thursday 1st January 2015 – Sunday 4th January 2015

Issued Tuesday 29th of December at 11:45am

Hi all,

I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas festivities and for some of you, you got the added bonus of snow on Boxing Day.

Are we going to see anymore snow in the foreseeable future? It doesn’t look on the cards even into early January.

After several days of cold frosty and even foggy weather it gets milder through Wednesday night. Therefore Thursday will be much milder with rain coming in from the west on a stiff southwesterly breeze becoming heavier later in the day. Highs 11’C.

Rain around on Friday morning will slowly clear southeastwards but doing so introduces cooler air so temperatures dropping during the day. Following the rain, bright spells and some showers. Breezy. Highs of 8’C.

The weekend looks cold with some showers on Saturday which could be wintry in places with some hail. The breeze making it feel quite chilly again. Highs of 6’C.

Sunday looks a bit more settled at the moment with bright spells and lighter winds. It could stay dry but we can’t rule out a shower. Highs of 6’C.

Looking ahead it remains showery with temperatures about average.

All the best for 2015.

Thursday 18th December – Sunday 21st December

Hi All,

The question on everyone’s lips is. “Will it snow on Christmas Day?”. I’m afraid the prospect at the moment isn’t looking good. Latest forecasts suggest temperatures around 7°C and windy with showers. A bit of a let-down especially for snow-lovers like myself.

Thursday will be very mild with spells of rain or showers. It will also be quite windy at times. Highs of 13°C.

Overnight and into the following morning, the rain pushes away and introduces much colder air leaving Friday as bright, windy and fresh with wintry showers. The wind making it feel much colder than Thursday. Highs of only 7°C.

The unsettled theme continues into Saturday with cold, breezy conditions bringing some heavy showers with hail possible but milder during the day. Highs of 7°C.

All change again into Sunday. A band of rain sweeps in from the west early on but it turns patchy and it turns milder again with southwesterly winds back in charge. Windy too. Highs of 10°C.

Looking ahead into Christmas Week and it seems weather sourced from the Atlantic stays in charge, briefly. So expect mild conditions with showery rain at times to start then maybe colder on Tuesday before milder again for Christmas Day. There is a slight hint of something colder on or after Boxing Day which might bring snow.

I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2015.

Thursday 4th December – Sunday 7th December

Hi,

December is here and with it comes colder weather and the start of the meteorological winter but no snow event on the horizon.

Thursday will dawn with some patchy frost but with a little more cloud in places. A cloudy day is in prospect making it feel cold but some brightness too. Max 6°C, Min 1°C.

Going into Friday a cold front pushes down from the northwest introducing thicker cloud and with it some patchy rain and a little wintriness on the hills. Brighter later with the odd scattered wintry shower with hail possible. Some clear spells overnight will mean a slight frost and possible icy patches. Max 6°C, Min 0°C.

Saturday will start chilly but the day should be mainly dry with sunny spells and again cold. Patchy frost first part of the night soon replaced with cloud and rain. Max 6°C, Min 0°C.

Sunday doesn’t look as sunny as Saturday with showers which could be wintry on high ground with hail possible even to lower levels. Cold and breezy. Max 7°C, Min 2°C.

Looking ahead it looks unsettled and chilly with some windy weather and wintry showers.
