Hi all,

We’ve been under the influence of a huge area of high pressure based over Scandinavia for a good while now but finally things are about to change. If only we had had this set-up in winter.

Thursday: A cool easterly wind across the region which will blow in showers, some will be heavy. Limited bright spells in between. Feeling cold. Max 11°C

Friday: The change begins as low pressure starts to edge in from the south and west. Another cool day with some showers and we still keep that nagging easterly breeze although not as strong as yesterday. Max 12°C

We can’t complain about our weather so far in October. It’s slowly become cooler but we’ve hardly had any rain; only 1mm in fact.

After a dry October so far; rain is set to return

Saturday: Low pressure anchored to our south-west feeding up a less cold southerly wind but also some spells of rain. This should turn more showery later with some sunny spells. Max 14°C

Sunday: Bright spells and showers. Still winds remain from the south so temperatures not too bad regardless of the conditions. Max 15°C

Next Week: Low pressure in charge so spells of rain but some brighter, drier interludes too. Temperatures close to average. I would expect the remainder of October to be rain-fuelled after the exceptionally dry start, but as always, long-range is anyone’s guess.

Thursday 6th October 2016 – Sunday 9th October 2016

Hi all,

It’s been a decent start to autumn with most of us enjoying settled conditions and plenty of dry weather. This pattern is set to continue as high pressure to our northeast, acts as a block, stopping rain-bearing weather fronts coming in from the west.

High pressure to our NE introducing blocking leading to cool easterlies.

Thursday: Cool south-easterly winds across the region but it should remain dry with some bright spells. Max 13’C.

Friday: Not much change, plenty of cloud morning and night. Some bright spells will try to break through during the day. Still a cool breeze. Just a risk of some drizzle, early and late. Cool. Max 13’C.

Starting to feel like déjà vu. The weekend sees a lot of dry weather as the high pressure to the northeast stays put. Overall both days cool or even chilly in the breeze. Some welcome bright spells at times but these will come and go. See the sun and it will make it feel pleasant as long as you’re sheltered from the breeze. Max 13’C.

Next week: Little change until later in the week, when the Atlantic, disturbed by the recent events of Hurricane Matthew, might start to kick back into gear again. However, with this high pressure very stubborn to move, our dry settled cool weather could continue. For sure though, the first half of October looks set to be very dry.

Thursday 29th September 2016 – Sunday 2nd October 2016

Hi all,

We are now into Autumn and it will certainly feel cooler at times over the next few days. Got any weekend plans? Sunday’s looking the ‘outdoor day’.

Thursday: Sunny spells and some scattered showers. Catch one and it could be heavy. Much fresher than Wednesday and windy. Max 16°C

Friday: Bright spells and showers. Showers heavier and more frequent than yesterday. Still breezy but it shouldn’t be as windy. Feeling cool. Max 14°C

A cold night on Saturday could see a rural ground frost

Saturday: We are still likely to see some rain as low pressure swings across England and Wales. Lighter winds and the rain should clear by evening and it will be a cold night with clear spells developing. Rurally a ground frost. Max 13°C

Sunday: The best day of the weekend. It promises to be dry with plenty of sunny spells after a cold and possible misty or foggy start. Max 14°C

The back-end of next week could see warmer temperatures again

Looking ahead: A southerly airflow should lift the temperatures early next week with some rain arriving on Tuesday. After that it’s back to cooler conditions before possibly warming up again by the end of the week where we could approach 20°C.

Thursday 22nd September 2016 – Sunday 25th September 2016

Hi all,

After last week’s storms and high temperatures, it’s been a quieter week so far. This pattern will continue until the weekend. It’s a short and sweet blog this week as I head off to Spain today for 4 days of golf and hot sunshine (so @MeteoGib promises me) :).

Thursday: It will start cloudy, on Autumn Equinox Day, with some patchy rain and mild. This rain will clear to leave a day of sunny spells and quite pleasant. Max 16°C

Friday: High pressure sitting to our south. Bright or sunny spells. Becoming breezy later with a risk of a shower or two. Max 18°C

The Atlantic starts to influence over the weekend.

Rain expected later on Saturday – likely late-evening

Saturday: A dry start with any brightness fading as cloud thickens from the west. It will become windy and rain, some heavy, is expected later in the day. Hopefully, it will hold off until after dark or even overnight. Feeling a little muggy. Max 19°C

Sunday: Once Saturday’s rain clears we will be left with sunshine and showers, some of these could be heavy or thundery. Still breezy and fresher. Max 16°C

Next Week: Details uncertain as the Jet Stream kicks in. Some cool nights where we have light winds and clear skies. By day, some spells of rain with drier intervals. Temperatures around average, maybe above on a few occasions.

Thursday 15th September 2016 – Sunday 18th September 2016

Hi all,

Well, after waiting all summer for a decent storm, one finally arrived nearly two weeks into September and wasn’t it a belter. Torrential rain, continuous lightning and roaring thunder. My kind of heaven but with localised flooding someone’s kind of hell. At Chaddy HQ the storm dropped 16.8mm in an hour. The wettest area around Bramhall saw 30-35mm of rain fall. That’s about half a month’s worth. During the torrential downpour we also managed an impressive rain-rate of 145.8mm/hr. As the storms moved through the region the whole cell produced over 10,500 lightning strikes. So, any more storms to come?

Thursday: I am expecting a cloudy and misty start in some places. This will be slow to burn off especially towards the hills. Eventually it will be a day of sunny spells and again very warm for September and feeling so with lighter winds than Wednesday. Max 24°C.

A widespread storm risk later on Thursday and overnight

Thursday (overnight): From late-evening on Thursday we have a warning in place for more storms. These storms will develop to our south, move north then away to the east. The timing or certainty is very tricky. So be aware of possible thunderstorms in the early hours and don’t be surprised to hear a rumble or two.

Fresher and cooler air arrives from the Atlantic on Friday

Friday: All change. Any morning storms, cloud and rain clearing. A much brighter afternoon with sunny spells and breezy. What will be noticeable will be how much fresher and cooler it will feel as northwesterly winds arrive. Just a chance of a shower later on. Max 17°C.

Saturday: Looking reasonable. Mainly dry with sunny spells. Temperatures around normal. Max 17°C.

Sunday: Bright spells for the morning. Cloud thickening with rain likely to arrive into the afternoon. Max 17°C.

After the recent warmth; some chilly nights expected next week

Next Week: Bright spells and some showers by day. A little cool compared to recently and overnight temperatures likely to slip into single-figures.

Autumn is here but it’s been a muggy week, so what’s in the forecast for the next four days.

Thursday: A very mild start and any brightness will be replaced by cloud and some localised patchy rain. This is a cold front so once it clears the afternoon will be brighter with sunny spells. It will then be fresher and cooler. Max 19°C

Friday: Breezy with sunny spells. With south-westerly winds it will still be warm. Heavy showers are likely just about anywhere from the afternoon onwards. Max 20°C

A spell of rain to start Saturday

Saturday: Cloudy with rain during the morning with some heavy bursts. A brighter and sunnier afternoon is expected as the rain clears and a little ridge of high pressure builds in. Cooler and breezy. Max 17°C

Sunday: Bright spells and breezy with the wind picking up during the day. Some showery rain likely to come in from the west later in the evening. Max 18°C

Looking ahead: Quite breezy with sunshine and some showers. I can’t see anything significantly warm or wet on the horizon. I wonder when our first cold spell will arrive and with it, our first frost.

Thursday 1st September 2016 – Sunday 4th September 2016

Hi all,

Well that’s it. Meteorologically speaking Summer is over. We’ve had a few decent days but no heatwave and no prolonged summery spell. We managed a high of 29.7°C on the 19th of July and 240mm of rain over the three summer months. As usual, don’t rule out a week of decent weather in September or even an Indian Summer late-September as it always seems to be the case.

I’m just finishing my holiday in Cornwall, waiting for this morning’s rain and cloud to clear before we hit the beach for one final time. What a lovely place this part of the World is.

Thursday: Bright or sunny spells but cloud will increase later in the day with some showery rain late-evening. Breezy overnight. Max 19°C

Friday: Cloudy with some showery rain. This will ease later into the afternoon and hopefully some brightness before dark. Max 18°C

A spell of heavy rain later on Saturday

Saturday: The Jet Stream will be in charge, after a dry start any brightness will be replaced by rain coming in from the southwest. Feeling a little close. Max 19°C

Sunday: Expect a showery picture with some rain at times and sunny spells. Max 19°C

An active Jet Stream taking control this weekend and beyond?

Next week: Things are uncertain. Quite an active Jet Stream means the likely situation is spells of rain with drier interludes. Of course, frequent updates on Twitter.

Afternoon all,

It’s weekly blog time. Just a short one this week as I’m off on my travels for a week’s holiday in Cornwall. Fingers crossed we get a good few days out of our “British Summer”.

This time last week August was looking a dry month with only 18mm of rainfall. Now we’re up to 70mm after a few days of heavy downpours.

The south-east has enjoyed “heatwave-like” temperatures but officially no heatwave has arrived despite what the media say.

Thursday: Feeling a little muggy as air is once again pulled up from the south. Mostly cloudy as the day progresses and hefty showers will break out. Some of these might be thundery. Max 18°C

Heavy possibly thundery downpours on Thursday

Friday: A small and weak area of high pressure builds in. Bright then sunny spells developing and feeling warm. It should remain dry. Max 21°C

Plenty of uncertainty this weekend as low pressure comes up from the south. Its development and where the rain falls is still open to change.

Saturday: I would expect a dry start with sunny spells. Cloud increasing and rain, some heavy could come up from the south later. Increasingly humid. Max 22°C

Sunday: A showery day is expected. Some sunshine in between and quite warm. Don’t be surprised to experience thunder and lightning in these showers. Max 20°C

Sunny spells expected on Bank Holiday Monday and an improvement from the weekend

Bank Holiday Monday: It should improve so a day of sunny spells and mainly dry conditions albeit with a fresh northwesterly breeze. Max 18°C

Beyond that there are signs the Jet Stream will kick in so bright spells in between spells of rain is the most likely scenario.

I hope you’ve all been enjoying the lovely summery weather we’ve been experiencing this week. If you haven’t had chance to and you’re pinning your hopes on this weekend, you’re going to be disappointed.

For me this week has been perfect. Early 20s and no humidity to spoil it. We will sneak in another day before it’s all change.

Thursday: Sunny spells will develop after a cloudy start. It will remain dry and be warm again. Make the most of it. Max 22°C

Friday: Cloud will thicken with rain, some heavy spreading from the southwest during the day. The rain will come and go with drier interudes possible. Cooler throughout. Max 18°C

Not great for being outdoors this weekend. Not the best when you have a garden party (and BBQ) planned for Saturday. 😦

Saturday: Windy with frequent showers, and at times, longer spells of rain. Gusts in exposed parts could touch 35-40mph, unusual for August. Feeling cool. Max 17°C

A dreadful Saturday with wind and plenty of showers

Sunday: Windy but the winds should ease later in the day. Another showery affair but these should become more scattered into the evening. Temperatures still below average. Max 17°C

A windy weekend, especially on Saturday. Strongest gusts around the Bristol Channel

Next week: Starting off a little more settled before showers return. A small chance of it warming up in the south but no heatwave in sight.

Some heat arrives next week but it doesn’t look to last long and likely to be confined to the south (no change there then)

If you’ve been keeping up to date with my tweets recently, you will notice that we have some warmer, possibly hot, weather on the way. This is still the case, but the length of the heat and how hot it becomes is fluctuating daily. The usual media bull is out there again saying it will last 2 weeks. At the time of writing this blog, it’s more like 2-3 days. So ignore their lies.

Thursday: Cloudy with some rain during the morning. Hopefully, bar some hill-drizzle, all of the rain should ease away into the afternoon but it will still remain cool and cloudy. Max 17°C.

Friday: Bright spells and some thicker cloud at times which could produce some showers, especially in northern parts. Windy at times and temperatures improving. Max 19°C.

The weekend doesn’t look too bad. Sunday the best day I reckon.

Saturday: A mainly cloudy morning which could see some light rain or drizzle. Drier with bright spells into the afternoon and with lighter winds feeling pleasant. Max 18°C.

Sunday: Becoming warmer with sunny spells developing. Max 21°C.

Hot air being dragged up from Spain is responsible for next week’s heat

Next week sees it become very warm or even hot into Monday/Tuesday but it will only last two or three days. We will have sunny spells but it will be muggy and we could see temperatures peaking at 27°C, before it turns cooler from midweek, with maybe a thundery breakdown. I have been tweeting about this possible heat next week and will continue to do so. There is still a chance this doesn’t happen at all [or even be slightly hotter and last longer] and I’ll be keeping you updated on Twitter, @ChadWeather.
