Thursday 25th February 2016 – Sunday 28th February 2016

Hi all,

OK, I’m not getting the snow I’m hanging desperately on to this winter for, but at least it feels more like winter now, with frosty mornings and some wintry sunshine.

It looks like the current cold spell is set to continue into March with just the odd milder day thrown in, so this keeps the door open for a snow-risk.

Thursday will start with a widespread frost and some rural spots may have had their coldest night of the winter with -6°C possible. There is also a risk of some patchy dense freezing fog, so something to be aware of on the roads in the morning. Once this clears we’ll have a day of sunny spells and it will be dry. Cold though. Max 4°C.

NEW Thu AM

A freezing start to Thursday – coldest temperatures of the winter possible

Another frosty morning possible on Friday but not as severe as cloud is expected to push in from the west. Chance of some wintry showers later in the day from the south-west but the focus remains on a mainly dry picture but with more cloud than yesterday. Max 5°C.

Finally a weekend without a washout day and non-stop rain. I promise.

Saturday and Sunday similar actually, with a lot of dry weather around as high pressure builds over the UK. It will also introduce a bitter easterly breeze at times. OK, we might see the odd sleet or snow flurry, or spot of rain but overall it will be dry with sunny spells and some frost to start the mornings. Max 5-6°C.

Settled Conditions – A ridge of high pressure over the UK at the weekend

Looking ahead and as we enter March, meteorologically-speaking the start of Spring, it remains cold at first, but there are some signs that the Atlantic will try to come back to bring slightly milder conditions and some rain. If so, it could be preceded by some snow. One to watch next week.

Thursday 16th April – Sunday 19th April

Hi all,

After a dull, cooler Wednesday, Thursday will be much better. A dry day with some sunny spells. Pleasant in the sunshine but temperatures down on earlier in the week. Max 13°C.
A chilly start on Friday but another dry day ahead with nice sunny spells. Similar temperatures at 13°C.
A decent weekend ahead but it looks like Saturday will offer more sunshine & hence feel warmer.

Saturday will be a sunny day with some fair-weather cloud at times. Again a chilly start, even with a touch of ground-frost. Sitting out in the sun will be very nice but remember UV levels are about 4 now, so suncream needed. Dry with a Max of 14°C.
We pick up a fresh easterly wind on Sunday so cloud likely to have spread in overnight. A cloudy day but some sunny spells are possible later on. Cooler but dry. Max 12°C.

Looking ahead, high pressure stays over the country so dry with bright or sunny spells. Can’t grumble as still no sign of those April Showers.

Thursday 9th April – Sunday 12th April

Hi all,

After a lovely week of warm afternoons with pleasant sunny spells it’s set to become cooler again over the weekend so enjoy it while you can.

Thursday will be a lovely day and with more of a southerly breeze temperatures will climb. Dry with plenty of sunshine. UV levels quite high for April so suncream required if out all day. Max 18°C.

Another decent day on Friday with some hazy sunny spells & warm temperatures. It should remain dry, although with some more cloud possible later in the day, there is a low risk of a shower into the evening. With winds from France, temperatures up to 18°C again.

Saturday throws a little hiccup into our settled warm spell. A front comes through from the west or northwest introducing more cloud and colder conditions. Some rain is possible Friday night into Saturday morning but not huge amounts then sunny spells. A little breezy and much cooler temperatures. Max 11°C.

As we enter Sunday we are likely to see some showers. Early indications suggested a drier and settled day but now it looks like the cool, unsettled conditions will win. Max 13°C.

Looking ahead the remainder of the week should be dry with high pressure close by. A sign the weather might become warmer from midweek before it breaks down into the weekend with rain and unsettled conditions arriving.

March 2015 Stats: Warmest 14.7°C; Coldest -0.9°C; Wettest 22.4mm; Windiest 50mph; Total Rainfall 106.2mm

Thursday 5th March – Sunday 8th March 2015

Hi all,

After entering March on a wintry flavour it’s set to become milder.

Thursday will start bright with some sunny spells. The afternoon will be cloudier with some rain possible but not everywhere. Winds now from a south-westerly direction bringing milder air. Breezy. Max 10°C.

We struggle to shake off the cloud into Friday as well, with some patchy rain continuing in the morning under cloudy skies. I’m hopeful the afternoon brings more in the way of sunshine though. Max 11°C.

The start of the weekend will be even milder.

We are in the middle of two weather systems as we enter Saturday so generally cloudy with some occasional drizzle possible but hopefully staying away to the northwest. If this does then we can expect pleasant Spring sunshine. Max 13°C or even a 14°C.

Expect a day of some bright spells early on, on Sunday but also a lot of variable cloud. Rain can’t be ruled out later into the afternoon. Mild but a little cooler. Max 12°C.

Looking ahead it looks more settled but temperatures likely to drop back to the norm.
