Hi all,
WOW – that’s January done with already and the stats are in. It was a month delivering below average rainfall (yes you heard that correctly) but much milder conditions than the norm. Now we have a few days of high pressure, literally bringing the ‘calm before the storm’, or will that be storms?
Thursday: High pressure in charge, so a chilly start with some patchy frost and fog. Some sunny spells developing during the day. Dry with light winds. Max 7°C
Friday: The high will start to drift away to the east. We will get through daylight hours dry with bright or sunny spells. Less in the way of fog or mist to start as the southeasterly wind picks up making it feel cold. Rain overnight. Max 6°C
Weekend: The Jet Stream is starting up its engines and there is a big change on the way.
Saturday: There could be a band of rain to start but this will ease away quickly to leave a reasonable day with some sunny spells. The wind will start to swing to a southwesterly and will increase in strength as the day progresses. 40mph gusts possible by evening as it turns cloudy with rain arriving. Max 9°C

Sunday: Very windy with heavy rain, followed by frequently blustery showers. It will be very mild early on but turning colder into the evening. Details for Storm Ciara will firm up nearer the time. Currently we are in for gusts of up to 55-70mph with some structural damage possible; but this could downgrade slightly if the position of the low changes. As colder air digs in overnight, the showers will turn wintry, with an increasing risk of snow on the hills. Max 11°C
Outlook: It will remain windy on Monday/Tuesday with wintry showers, so expect rain, hail, sleet, snow and some thunder and lightning. Gusts of 40-50mph still likely during the showers. During the week, there is the potential for another storm to develop, Storm Dennis, so keep your eyes peeled on my updates. Later in the week it looks less cold but unsettled with further spells of rain.
